Loss and grief are near universal parts of the human experience. And yet, it can be difficult to talk about these painful aspects of life. Join TODAY’S special event hosted by the phenomenal brand M.M. LaFleur, in which I’ll be in conversation with M.M.’s CEO Sarah LaFleur and fellow authoress Marisa Renee Lee (Grief is Love) about living a joyful life in the face of grief; dealing with loss in the workplace; letting go of guilt; and so much more. Whether you’ve dealt with a loss yourself, want to better support someone in your life who is grieving, or just want to learn about a tough topic from a joyful and humorous perspective, we’d love to see you there.

The past two years have damaged the mental health of millions of Americans. Data shows women, LGBTQ+ people, and people of color are feeling this impact particularly acutely. An increasing number of people are reporting symptoms of anxiety and depression. Overdoses in the United States have hit record highs but counterintuitively, suicides actually went down a bit in 2020. And while the mental health care system is overwhelmed with patients seeking help, professional care remains inaccessible to many across the country.
For Mental Health Awareness Month, The 19th (is an independent, nonprofit newsroom reporting at the intersection of gender, politics and policy) and State of Mind, a project of Slate magazine and Arizona State University, will host practical and frank conversations about the mental health crisis facing the United States.
Join me for a conversation with author Leslie Gray Streeter and State of Mind editor Torie Bosch, during which we’ll talk about how people can prioritize their own mental health and explore dealing with grief — something so many are working through after two years of significant loss.
