Swap the Sad for Something Special This Mother’s Day
Our 9th annual gift swap form is open for those who consider the day a steaming pile of “nope”
Mother’s Day can be a steaming pile of “nope” when you’re living with loss. I’m 18 years in myself and still have wildly complicated feelings about it. That’s why we play matchmaker—so you can give (and get) something special from someone who truly gets it.
Since 2017, more than 2,500 people have swapped cards and gifts through Modern Loss on Hallmark holidays and "festive" seasons, proving that a little kindness goes a long way on a tough day. Friendships have formed, and we’ve learned of at least one professional project that came out of it, but mostly, it’s a nice feeling to make someone else feel seen and have them see you.
Our signup form is open through Sunday, April 6, so that there’s enough time to do this right. This swap is open to our friends in the United States, Canada, Australia, and the UK. Click below to join in.*
*Before you sign up, a lil’ reminder
I was just stuck in bed sick for a few days and whittled away some of my boredom trying to reach the outermost limits of the online shopping experience. For example, did you know that $80 can get you any one of these?
A gigantic 5-pound gummy bear 🍬🐻
A custom bobblehead of yourself (or your worst enemy)
A “world’s tiniest” functional vacuum 🧹
A banana phone 🍌
A mystery box of weird Amazon returns 🎁
An annual paid subscription to Modern Loss 💙
And did you know that all of our gift swaps – Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and the winter holidays one – are included in your annual paid subscription, along with other connection points? Please consider upgrading to a paid membership and join in on it all. Your paid support helps me to keep doing the work.
The weirdest thing I’ve seen today (which is saying a lot)
This British dude really, really loved Snickers.
